my brother-in-law asked about to replace his fiance’s 2003 Camry. I’ve been telling him to join this place for months. You guys have come to the rescue for a number of our projects so he knows its a cool place but for some reason doesn’t sign up. So you guys can help him and give advice her or you can wait for him to sign up.

I would probably go for the kia

Is that an ex-rental car?

Why are you replacing the Camry?

max amount to spend?

What are his criteria? The most important being price range.
That Kia you posted is 10k, and I;ve heard of people getting brand new Mirages for 10k or less.
Of course, Toyota does make the best cars, so a CPO Yaris might work, too.

its an ‘03. he’s getting a step ahead with the fear that one day something catastrophic will happen and put the Camry out of its misery. It wasn;t the best maintained car for the first 2/3rds of its life

Space and budget restrictions?

$10-$14k, bluetooth. not a whole lot else. 2-3 yrs old and under 40k miles AWD would probably be nice but i think you have to go too old.

It reads like one to me. Good point.

2013 Honda Civic LX sedan. There are a ton of them. but it hits all the right spots. It’s got a backup camera, too.

Yup, a CPO Yaris is probably the best choice.
He could probably get a brand new Mirage with bluetooth in budget too

Well, it’s a Camry - maybe take it to a mechanic and have that mechanic go through it for an hour - if it can be made safe and driveable and last for another year or so, why not keep it?

Yeah, that seems to be a no-no around here.

we’ve been doing a fair amount of work. It would be something like if the trans dies or something internal to the engine and needs to be replaced.

4 dr sedan hatch or cuv, $14 k, 40k miles or less

Maybe just drive it until it dies - make sure AAA and cell phone are paid up.

is the Yaris smaller?
I’d imagine a Mirage being a tin can

Well tons of options, You can find just about any midsize if you look hard enough, though it wont be as optioned out as a compact but id rather have more leg room. All have less than 40k
14 Accord Sport with BT

14 Kia Optima with BT

and 13 Legacy with BT and AWD

Also never understood why Bluetooth is such a big deal.

That is going to put you prime rental/fleet resale. Looking near me its a lot of elantras, jettas, cruzes, foci, and the like. So keep an eye on the autocheck/carfax/whatever you use to look at vehicle history.

The Yaris is bigger than the Mirage, about the size of a Fit, Sonic, or Fiesta.

Thoughts on the Prius...
They’re coming from a Camry, so it’s not like they’re in Corvette territory, but the 2013s are in that price range and coming out of lease.

Mazda6, the aforementioned Optima and its corporate cousin the Hyundai Sonata, and Ford Fusion are all good choices for midsize in budget with Bluetooth. Make sure to test the Bluetooth during the test drive. I’ve had several customers purchase a car that features Bluetooth that only syncs content and streaming but doesn’t have phone functionality without having to go to the dealer to have the microphone, speaker, and software added on for $400-1000 depending on model.
For smaller: Mazda 3, Ford Focus and Fiesta - if they have the dual-clutch automatic make sure the clutch update has been performed! - (and don’t forget the Focus Electric), Ford C-Max, Kia Forte and its cousin the Hyundai Elantra, Kia Soul, Kia Rio and its cousin Hyundai Accent, Nissan Leaf, Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris, any Prius, Scion/Toyota iA.
I doubt you’ll find many crossovers in your range, but - see if you sense a theme here - Mazda CX-5, CX-7, Tribute, Ford Escape, Kia Sportage and its cousin the Hyundai Tucson.
Don’t forget the Mazda5, either.
